rapture

what to do when your dear friend whole-heartedly believes the world is coming to an end in just 30 days...

i'm not even poking fun, just legitimately concerned for him. how will he react when may 22nd comes? as he told me tonight while handing me a bible in a restaurant parking lot, 'you know this is the only thing i take seriously in this life, so i need for the people i care about to listen to me and be educated.' he's been a follower of harold camping and family radio for a few years now and has started to throw his life away with this almost obsession with it. he became unemployed around the same time that he started preaching campings word to his friends. his 'job' for the past few years has been working out and spreading god's word. a friend of mine recently spotted him holding a sign on the side of the road with the countdown till judgement day. he's told me himself that he hands out literature outside of grocery stores. he's been giving away his belongings. he hardly eats. he has a severe eating/body image disorder for years that he is in denial of. "i'm the healthiest person i know" is his response whenever a nutritionist is brought up. he's not physically taking care of himself and he thinks the world is ending. i'm sincerely worried for him more than ever now. in these "final days" leading up to "the great rapture", what will he do? how will he react? what happens the next day when everything is ok? he's devoted his WHOLE EXISTENCE to this one belief, and now when it doesn't pan out, and when harold camping has to call it 'his bad', what is he going to do with himself? i'm really worried for him.

senior year

for those of you who don't know him, my boyfriend chris is graduating from SVA this spring. he went back to school 4 years ago after a long hiatus of traveling, touring the usa and europe with his band(s), buying a house and plain old living life. i remember how excited i felt when he told me he wanted to go back to school and study photography more. i'm really proud of him that he's come so far so quickly. the days of me helping him are long gone. so, even though i never went to art school, i still get schooled for free by him. and free adobe updates (thank you mo!) plus all the fun equipment i could ever want to borrow.

anyway, chris has really been working his tush off this semester. commuting back and forth to nyc 4 to 5 days a week. mentor meetings. proposals and artist statements. installations and slideshows. postcards and portfolios. senior thesis. exhibitions... to say he was stressing would be an understatement, but the work he has been producing has been fantastic. and i'm not just saying that because i date him. so proud

mixtape monday 8/30/10

my good friends brian & amanda finally got hitched this weekend!
best wedding hands down. great music, ridiculous dancing, amazing food, vegan cupcakes, and tons of friends. our friend drew became a "minister" via the world wide web, and performed the ceremony. they had a bit of a back to the future theme for their entrance which included huey louis "power of love" while wearing plastic 80's sunglasses, and then a little earth angel. their first dance was to the ramones. brian's band covered the descendents "marriage" and pressed limited edition wedding 7" for favors. (almost) everything was environmentally friendly, including the corn based eating utensils, which once discovered, quickly turned into a fork eating contest. i didn't catch the boquet that was tossed way too high, although i did slap it to the ground. that might count for something.
