mixtape monday

since i don't make mix tapes anymore i thought it'd be fun to start a "mixtape" collection on my blog. each week i'll post a mix with some sort of theme based on what's happening, how i'm feeling or just totally random.

i've been watching a bunch of movies over the past few weeks, which is what inspired me to start doing this actually. so many great soundtracks out there.. so here are some of my favorite songs from the big screen. enjoy!

a week from today

so in my last post i mentioned our cross country trip.. we're leaving a week from today! a while back we came up with our route out there, but the route home is tba. obviously, driving across the country is going to be unpredictable. we don't have a set itinerary, but a general route with major points of interest plotted out. whatever happens in between those points will set the tone for the rest of the trip, depending on time and how we're feeling. this is what it's looking like so far:

we're planning on taking a lot of back roads rather than interstates, and roaming around small, middle-of-nowhere towns. that being said, if anyone has any recommendations, send them my way! we'll be camping mostly, and hitting up a lot of national parks/natural monuments (badlands, devil's tower, yellowstone, olympic national park, hoh rainforest, redwood national park.. the rest depend on our route home).

the flannel-shirt-wearing, 13 year old meghan (that is still deep down in there somewhere) is waaayyy excited for seattle. it was like my middle school mecca. my bedroom walls were literally wallpapered with torn out magazine pages of eddie and kurt. in my head i was angela chase, waiting for my jordan catalano. i cried when my mom replaced my held-together-by-a-thread converse with new ones. in planning this trip, i've been doing a lot of reminiscing. you can never watch singles too many times.

oh, and we're also planning on going to astoria, OR and north bend, WA, where goonies and twin peaks were filmed (respectively), which is both nerdy and cool all at the same time.

and on that note.. the anthem of my early teenage years, sung by the man i had convinced myself i would one day marry:

how cute was he in 1992? awe. now, if you'll excuse me, i have some my so called life to catch up on. for the 14th time.

counting up/down

chris went on tour with our good friends black wine for three weeks and i miss him so. it's the longest time we've spent apart (yes, cheesy, i know) and living together only makes the time go by slower. it's strange to wake up alone, to come home to an empty house, and to fall asleep alone. it's been 13 days since he left.. but only 9 until i get him back! so hooray for that.

he's been sending me fun pictures via iPhone, which always makes me smile:

a view of seattle on tuesday

tonight at a bizarro local bar/night club in eugene, OR.
i can't wait to hear more about it tomorrow.

but anyway, on to the less sappy/more exciting stuff!!! we're going to spend 3 weeks driving cross country with our friend drew. so excited!! we're leaving in just over a week from now. chris will be in ohio wrapping up the last few shows of their tour, so drew and i are driving out to meet him in dayton to steal him and begin our journey west. hopefully he's not too pooped, after having been on the road for three weeks already at that point. he better not be!

and so the countdown begins....

no time like the present

i've thought often of starting a blog over the years. recently, it's been on my mind a bunch, this week in particular. it's my first summer not working since i was 15 years old. i've been home feeling antsy and bored, avoiding the heat and spending a lot of time with my laptop. it got me thinking: hey, there's no time like the present.

for those of you who don't yet know me, a crash course introduction:
i'm a 31 year old pre-k teacher at a private school. photography was always my first love, but it's become more of a hobby these days. i love traveling and ethnic food. i live for a good sale.
chris is my bf/bffl/partner in crime. he's a photographer and the funniest guy i know. we spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking yummy, vegan meals together. he really likes pancakes, antique chairs and me.

rosie and mr. alphabet are our kitties. they're brother and sister. they spoon a lot.

joe is our roommate. he's a punk. and an engineer.
we all live under the same leaky roof in tinton falls, nj. one weird, eccentric, happy family.

i wish i could say i'm one of those focused types who can keep a tidy, organized blog about one specific area of their life, but i know that'd be a big fat lie. i'm more of an all-over-the-place girl. i'm easily amused and equally as distracted, and i'm predicting a similar pattern for this blog. and that's perfectly fine with me. a little bit of this. a little bit of that. a place to share new recipes and adventures. cute design and thrift store finds. photos and projects.

so here it is:

welcome to my little corner of the universe. i hope you enjoy life as i see it.
